Garcia replaces Susan Taylor, who previously announced she is stepping down from the anchor desk on December 2

NBC 7 San Diego today announced that Catherine Garcia will be the new primary evening anchor starting Monday, December 5. Garcia joined the station as the weekend anchor in 2003 and currently anchors NBC 7 San Diego News at Noon and NBC 7 San Diego News at 4 PM. Her award winning “San Diego Explained” stories produced with the “Voice of San Diego” can also be seen each weeknight at 6 PM.

“Catherine is a strong journalist, a terrific writer and a wonderful person, with a passion for her job and her role in the San Diego community,” said Richard Kelley, President and General Manager of NBC 7 San Diego. “We are fortunate that Catherine is already on our team and are excited she agreed to take on this important role.”

A California native, Garcia received her bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Spanish from the University of Southern California. She is bilingual and the first Hispanic to be promoted to the primary anchor role at NBC 7 San Diego. Garcia came to San Diego from WFAA-TV, the ABC affiliate in Dallas, Texas, where she worked as the morning and evening weekend anchor. She also spent three years in Austin as a morning anchor at KTBC-TV and a year in El Paso at KTSM-TV as an anchor/reporter.
