Built to Spill Inaugurate A Ship in the Woods Festival

Locals Hexa, Spooky Cigarette and Island Boy join Built to Spill and more at the inaugural music and arts festival

Remember when we told you about the huge year Lou Niles was planning for San Diego music?

Well, it's even bigger than we thought. On June 16-17, Built to Spill, No Age, Bill Callahan (Smog) and Shabazz Palaces will be headlining the inaugural A Ship in the Woods Music and Arts Festival at Escondido's Felicita County Park.

Also joining the lineup are Lonnie Holley, Willis Earl Beal, Treepeople, EMA, Cafe Ale (dublab), Moon Diagrams (Moses Archuleta of Deerhunter), Drew McDowall (Coil, Psychic TV, Poems), Tara Jane O'Neil, Hiro Kone, Ice Balloons (TV on the Radio, SAMIAM), Sun Foot and local acts Hexa, Spooky Cigarette and Island Boy. And apparently, there will be an opening anthem featuring Pall Jenkins (Black Heart Procession, 3Mile Pilot) and Lori Goldston (Nirvana Unplugged).

It turns out Niles was right, the festival is going to be "edgy, cool -- who's who from the pages of Pitchfork plus the usual amazing artists."

But it's not just edgy and cool; it's also well-rounded. A Ship in the Woods is partnering with a number of non-profit and charitable organizations and will also feature art, food and beer -- not to mention some retail vendors. So, get on it!
