I love discovering new music and seeing buzzy artists perform in small clubs and then move into bigger venues as their stars rise. But that's not necessarily the trajectory for all bands or artists, and so I also love the tried-and-true road dogs. These are the artists who've got a reasonable catalog behind them, enjoy a certain level of success, find their groove, have a tour loop they hit once or twice a year, always play to devoted fans who bring a new friend or two to each show and it's just an all-around feel-good time. Such is the Bob Schneider experience: He's funny, he's poetic, he's charming, and he even has his tender moments -- and tonight's show at the Belly Up will be awesome. Because his shows always are. Around town, GRRRL Independent Ladies have a sick lineup at the Casbah, Soda Bar goes art punk with King Whisker, and genre-bending pop star Jon Bellion plays SDSU's Open Air Theatre.
