Although the official San Diego Asian Film Festival isn’t until October, the Asian Film Foundation (SDAFF) is giving San Diegans an early taste of their incredible international offerings with a Spring Showcase. The 11-film event kicks off this weekend at Ultrastar Cinemas at Hazard Center, so The Feast sat down with Daniel Matthews, Marketing and Publicity Director for SDAFF, to get all the details on the festivities.
Describe the SDAFF Spring Showcase in a single Tweet.
Celebrate 11 critically acclaimed Asian films over 8 days in San Diego.
$10 buys us 1 ticket or 2 beers. Why should we run to the multiplex instead of happy hour?
You can buy beers anytime. But this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see some of these films in San Diego. A lot of them are single run, so once they’re out, they’re out.
We only have time to watch three films. What should we see?
Definitely spend the weekend with us!
Friday: 'Little Big Solider' is a Chinese film starring Jackie Chan. We’re very excited to be hosting the San Diego premier of this film at our Opening Night.
Saturday: 'Saigon Electric' is a high-energy dance film starring Vietnamese break dancers.
Sunday: 'A Tale of Mari and Three Puppies' will help to raise money for Japan disaster relief, with all proceeds from the screening benefiting relief organizations.
What else do we need to know before we go?
For the complete film line-up, click here. Although we will have festival passes for our October event, the movies at the Spring Showcase are all individually priced. General admission movie tickets are $10, students and seniors $8.
Friday, April 15 - Friday, April 22.
