If you’re looking for a unique way to break in a new pair of high heels, you might want to head to the streets of Hillcrest on Saturday for the 2nd Annual “Amazing High Heel Race.”
The rowdy race runs from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and features teams decked out in high heels running through the streets of Hillcrest in a fast-paced scavenger hunt.
The starting line is at Urban Mo’s at 308 University Ave.
Along the route, each team will look for clues located at participating businesses in the area. They'll have to complete several silly “tasks” as they strut through the neighborhood.
After the race, teams will gather at the Gossip Grill at 1440 University Avenue for a post-race party – in comfy flip-flops – where a special “Heel Race Awards” celebration will be held.
Awards handed out at the party will include Highest Heel, Fiercest Heel, Best Time, Most Creative Team Attire and Biggest Blister.
The colorful event is meant to kick off the summer while celebrating diversity and unity in Hillcrest. It also serves as a community fundraiser.
Proceeds from participating team entries will go toward funding the Hillcrest Pride Flag.
The entry fee for each team is $150. Up to six high-heeled male or female members can participate on each team, all wearing heels that are a minimum of 3-inches high.
In order to complete the race, each team must start in heels and end in heels. Participants are urged to bring an extra pair of high heels or a repair kit just in case their shoes blow out in the middle of the race.
The last day to register for The Amazing High Heel Race is June 15.
