Even if the sound isn't your cup of tea, it's hard to deny the beauty and tenderness of Alicia Champion's musical tribute to her wife, Danielle LoPresti.
LoPresti, who organized San Diego Indie Fest with Champion before moving to the Bay Area in 2016, has been battling late-stage cancer for the past five years. According to BuzzFeed, the homage to the couple's 14-year relationship, which has been viewed more than 150,000 times, left some celebrities in tears.

In 2013, LoPresti was diagnosed with Stage III Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma; fortunately, she has been in remission ever since. Champion's tribute is a testament to the strength of her wife (the couple was married in May 2014), which is why, as she explains in the video's prologue, she sees echoes of DC Comics' Supergirl and Wonder Woman in her partner's battle with cancer.

Champion and LoPresti were longtime San Diego residents before they moved to Oakland in 2016. LoPresti was raised here and graduated valedictorian from Chula Vista School of the Creative and Performing Arts in 1987. In 2004, she, Champion and Kelly Bowen produced the first SD IndieFest, which would go on to host bands like Cake, Metric, Best Coast and Talib Kweli until the couple's departure.
It's not the couple's first brush with viral fame -- LoPresti's 2015 cover of "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" has been streamed more than 1.5 million times on YouTube.
While Champion and LoPresti might not live here any longer, we will always be proud to call them locals.
