30 Days in the Brig for Missing Marine?

A U.S. Marine Corp official is denying a report that a Boulder Iraq war veteran accused of deserting the Marines two years ago will spend 30 days in the brig at Camp Pendleton.

Twenty-three-year-old Lance Hering was arrested Nov. 16 in Port Angeles, Wash., on charges of desertion and contempt of court. The Marines took Hering into custody Nov. 22.

KUSA-TV in Denver reported Wednesday that Hering has been ordered to serve 30 days in the brig at Camp Pendleton but would get credit for time served while in Washington. On Thursday, 1st Lt. Tom Garnett told the station that no charges had been filed and that it would likely be a matter of weeks before a decision was made.

Hering had been reported missing in August 2006.
