Riverside County Sheriff's authorities have broken up a cockfight involving about 100 roosters in Coachella.
Sheriff's spokesman Dennis Gutierrez said deputies raided a residence yesterday morning while a cockfight was occurring.
He said several dozen people ran away as deputies approached, leaving their vehicles behind, and several others were detained for questioning.
Animal control officers seized the roosters. Deputies found a cockfighting arena and cages on the property.
