Golf Carts with Gusto

Little wheels with big personality.

LAND OF SAND: As the weather cools, the desert becomes a more feasible option for travel. With its kitschy history, local luxury, and ample golf opportunities, Palm Desert is one such local treat. If you're looking for a family-friendly excuse to make the trek, consider driving up for the annual Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade taking place Sunday, Oct. 27.

READY TO RIDE: The brain child of bored locals and celebrities on vacation in the 60's, the Golf Cart Parade has evolved from a mashup of golf carts in Christmas lights to a full-on parade event with elaborately decorated floats, marching bands, performers, and more. The day begins at 8 a.m. with an outdoor pancake breakfast, followed by vendor booths by sponsors and local golf clubs. The show starts at 11 a.m. and wraps up with local judging and an awards ceremony. Kids can get out their energy between floats at The Webb Foundation's free Play Zone, and all will marvel at the Palm Springs Air Museum flyby, which wraps up the event.

MADE IN THE SHADE: Admission to the event is free. Smart attendees will spring for the shaded VIP seats, which include a prime viewing spot of all festivities as well as free lunch, snacks, and drinks. Seniors can enjoy their own VIP section compliments of the Auen Foundation, as long as they RSVP before the spots are all filled.
