San Marcos to Thank First Responders, Firefighters in Cocos Fire

Citizens will have the chance to meet many of the first responders who jumped into action for the Cocos Fire

The City of San Marcos has announced plans to hold a public ceremony in honor of those who fought the Cocos Fire and helped residents evacuate.

With the San Marcos Unified School District, the city is inviting residents to be a part of an event on Saturday, May 31 at the Mission Hills High School football stadium.

People who were evacuated or lost their homes will have a chance to meet many of the first responders who jumped into action when the devastating brush fire broke out on Wednesday, May 14.

Along with the city's ceremony, organizers say residents can expect music, light freshments and an emergency preparedness resources fair.

The event will run 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For those interested in donating to the event, please call (760) 744-1050, ext. 3184.
