Weekend Events for Feb. 1-3

Have fun before the Super Bowl by running, visiting a museum or taking a trip to Liberty Station

Got plans? The first weekend of February kicks off with the Super Bowl, Electric Run and San Diego Black Film Festival.

Here’s what to do this weekend:

Friday, Feb. 1

San Diego Black Film Festival

Various times, locations
For its 11th year, the San Diego Black Film Festival is screening more than 100 films. The event starts Thursday and lasts through Sunday. Ticket prices vary for each movie.

Friday Night Liberty

5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Liberty Station
This free event features open artist studios and performances for the whole family. San Diego Ballet will put on a show toward the end of the night, and before that you can create your own art at one of the gallery booths.

Saturday, Feb. 2

Electric Run
7 p.m. at Del Mar Fairgrounds
Get ready to run in the dark at VAVi’s first major event of the year. The Electric Run will have more than 11,000 people sprinting with glowsticks along the coast. Sounds like a party. Entrance to run is $60.

Super Run

7:30 a.m. at South Shores Park
Keep up those New Year's resolutions by running a 10k or walking a 5K this weekend. Entrance is $42 at the door.

Sunday, Feb. 3

Hillcrest Farmers Market
9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 3960 Normal St.
Before cooking up some tasty snacks for the Super Bowl, go to the Hillcrest Farmers Market to get the best local ingredients.

Museum Month

Various times, locations
Take the family to one of 42 local museums offering a half-off discount this month. Special exhibits, like the "most bizarre creatures" at the San Diego Natural Museum of History, are sure to be a hit with the kids.
