Do you feel that? It’s summer knocking on our door which means festival season is upon us...a month early! A year ago, we were all trying to dance just to stay warm -- and now we can enjoy the beautiful San Diego weather during the day to dance it off at night!
February is not for the weak and Don Diablo tests your dancing skills at the Observatory North Park on Thursday, Feb. 8, as he embarks on his Future Tour. Over at PB Avenue, the drinks will be flowing and techno arising as Donald Thump, Mad Waves and friends take over the beach spot on the same night.
Friday night (Feb. 9), the Tribe Out West and Late Night Jackin’ crews set up shop at the Old Town after-hours spot, Spin Nightclub, with New York’s Greco (who's got plenty of hot tracks on labels like Toolroom Knights).
Food. Fun. Lifestyle. Features. All in America's Finest City.
House music dominates the weekend with the live, multi-instrument electronic duo Goldfish, who make their way to Bang Bang for their second San Diego performance ever. From their hometown of Capetown, South Africa, to globe-trotting their way to Southern California, the duo have been leaving their mark with impressive, interactive performances and truly unique, uniting dance music.
Up the hill in North Park, Queen Bee's Art and Cultural Center delivers a feature event showcasing the legendary Hector Morales, Harvard Bass (who is leading the charts with his latest house music releases), West Coast Weekender’s Oscar P, Soul on Beat’s Cris Herrera, and many more.
As the underground keeps making its way into the limelight, Digital Cocoon keeps pushing the next wave of San Diego’s future superstars. This month, they feature Sücio at Kava Lounge on Friday, Feb. 16, to warm up for the big weekend ahead.
Matoma delivers with his One in a Million Tour, which hits San Diego with a special Sunday night show featuring a supreme set of special guests throughout the tour, on Feb. 18 at Omnia San Diego. On the same night, LED’s Anniversary shindig returns for all 18-and-up music enthusiasts (21-and-up are welcome as well) with a stellar lineup of bass and big room sound waves filling the Valley View Casino Arena from 9 p.m.-4 a.m. Joining the fun is Madeon, Malaa, Herobust, Getter and many more! If you know LED events, prepare for a zebra of a time with plenty of surprises underway.
Closing out the month, University Heights' AC Lounge continues on its mission to treat San Diego to quality music in an intimate setting week after week. On Friday, Feb. 23, House Music Fridays host LA artists Deep Tribe, along with resident Matthew Brian and friends.
The following night, we double up on AC Lounge for a special edition of "Hands + Knees," a dance party featuring yours truly plus DJ/producer/vocalist Lady Verse coming out from NYC. Expect an eclectic night of dancing till your hands and knees can’t take anymore as we drop beats from start to finish.
From there on out, remember to rest up as March launches big with Southern California’s premier festival kicking off festi-season: CRSSD! With a lineup featuring Empire of the Sun, Gorgon City, Bonobo, Malaa, Billy Kenny, Tiga, Cirez D, Mark Knight, Camel Phat and many, many more -- you will not want to miss out. We’ll be giving away tickets on my radio show, In the Mixxx, on ALT 949’s Glow Radio (Friday from 7-10 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 p.m.-midnight), so stay posted for those as well as more events on the way.
Stay classy, San Diego!
