December's Newest Restaurants and Breweries

Check out some of San Diego's newer places to eat and drink

If you want to take out-of-town visitors to some swanky new eateries in San Diego, you’re in luck. This month plenty of new places opened up just in time for the holidays.

The following restaurants and breweries are sure to impress any guests, so check them out before they get crowded.

Thorn Street Brewery
3174 Thorn St., North Park
Touting itself as “North Park’s First Brewery” Thorn Street Brewery is a perfect addition to the neighborhood’s thriving craft beer scene. Located just a few blocks away from 30th Street, this brewery is geared toward the locals who simply want a tasting room they can walk to. There’s currently six beers on tap daily, and they even offer home brewing classes for those hoping to make their own beers.

GANG Kitchen
345 6th Ave., Downtown
The genius behind URBN Coal Fire Pizza and BASIC in East Village decided to take his talents a few blocks away with GANG Kitchen. (notice a theme there?) Jon Mangini is hoping to open his latest spot by the second week of December, complete with a mixed-Asian cuisine menu. It’s a little different from the pizza joints, but the fresh fish is sure to be a hit with San Diego’s devoted seafood crowd.

The Patio
4445 Lamont St., Pacific Beach
Pacific Beach isn’t exactly known for its fine dining, but this farm-to-table spot in the seaside town might just encourage foodies to journey out to the bar-heavy neighborhood. With affordable cocktails and dozens of menu options, The Patio has something for everyone – even the picky eaters. The rustic interior is inviting and warm, and the owners even allow dogs inside. So put your pooch on a leash and walk over to  try one of its many dishes.

Helm’s Brewing Co.
5640 Kearny Mesa Rd., Kearny Mesa
Joining more than 130 other San Diego breweries, Helm’s Brewing Co. recently opened its tasting room to the public. It’s currently open four days a week, but is worth a visit for its seasonal brew: Samuin Harvest. The seasonal beer is like sipping winter and Christmas in a single beer.
