All-American Rejects Kick Off Summer at the Track

And they're off: The All-American Rejects herald the start of the 2019 Del Mar Racetrack Summer Concert Series

The Del Mar Racetrack's 'dirty little secret' is out: The All-American Rejects are kicking off the track's summer concert series on Friday, July 19.

While we shared the Del Mar Racetrack's upcoming lineup back in May, there were still a couple dates yet to be announced at the time -- most notably, the first Friday concert of the season. Well, now we know why they saved it for a grand unveiling!

The All-American Rejects (comprised of frontman/actor Tyson Ritter, guitarist Nick Wheeler, guitarist Mike Kennerty and drummer Chris Gaylor) last played San Diego in 2018 as part of Kaaboo Del Mar (seems like they got a thing for the locale "where the surf meets the turf," eh?). While festivals are always fun, it'll be nice to see them stretch out at their own headlining show.

The band got its start in 1999 and rose to international stardom on the strength of their massive 2003 debut self-titled album. The platinum-selling record spawned the single "Swing, Swing" and planted them firmly atop the rock charts. Two years later, they'd go even bigger with "Move Along," their second studio album -- which contained the hits "Dirty Little Secret," "It Ends Tonight" and the title track (all of which charted in the top 15 on the Billboard Hot 100).

In 2008, the band released the album "When the World Comes Down," which boasted their most successful single to date, "Gives You Hell." It peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard charts and hit the top five in several other countries.

Since then, they've released one other studio album ("Kids in the Street" in 2012), the "Sweat" EP in 2017 and continued to tour. Word on the street is that they've got a brand-new record in the works. Might we hear some new material at their upcoming July 19 show?

Admission to all shows at the Del Mar Racetrack is free with a purchased ticket to the races. Otherwise, tickets are $30 if you arrive after the last race has occurred. For more information, please visit Del Mar Racetrack's website, DMTC.com.
