A Toast to San Diego Beer Week

This month, San Diego will do what it does best: celebrate local breweries and show off its abundant beer culture.

San Diego Beer Week kicks off officially on Nov. 7 and runs until Nov. 16, though Ritual Kitchen Tavern & Garden in North Park is offering a beer week eve event, SDBW Eve: Rare Local Taps, on Nov. 6. The tavern is serving an array of rare local brews that night.

From there, the fun and suds start early. Kickoff festivities include the Escondido Stone Brewing Co. location's Rare Beer Breakfast from 9 a.m. to noon (Nov. 7) and Karl Strauss Downtown's BYOB – Brew Your Own Beer Brunch at 9 a.m. (Nov. 7).

The next 10 days will include even more events across the county in connection with the 10-day beer bonanza, including tasting sessions at different local pubs and eateries.

On Nov. 7, you can *hops* aboard the San Diego Beer Train Tour and visit four breweries for flights of beer and good food as well as a brewery tour and guided walking tours.

SEA180 Coastal Tavern is hosting a history of craft beer class and tasting Nov. 8 at its Imperial Beach brewery. You can learn about the history of making suds and taste 10 different beer styles, too.

Also on Nov. 8, the San Diego Brewers Guild Festival will be in full swing, with unlimited beer samples and the option of attending a “beer college” – another way to learn the tools of the brewing trade.

And finally, as in years’ past, the beer week will wrap up with The Beer Garden at the Lodge at Torrey Pines. The event will bring together 24 breweries and 12 chefs to celebrate the craft beer movement with unlimited food and beer pairings.

San Diego Beer Week organizers say the 10-day, countywide festival is meant to attract beer tourism to San Diego, foster knowledge of our regional brewing heritage and serve as a showcase for the top-notch breweries, restaurants and pubs cranking out some of the finest brews in America’s Finest City.
