Top San Diego Neighborhoods for Trick-or-Treating

Halloween is the one day when children get to dress up in spooky, cute or quirky costumes and beg neighbors for candy. With so many communities in San Diego County, one might wonder: Where’s the best place to take your little ones trick-or-treating?

The real estate website Zillow has just released its annual list of the “Top 5 Neighborhoods to Trick-or-Treat in San Diego” and the uptown community of Kensington was dubbed No. 1.

The other top trick-or-treat spots in the county include, in order: Carmel Mountain; Loma Portal; Del Mar Heights; and Mission Hills.

Nationally, Zillow ranks San Diego the 12th best city for trick-or-treating on their “2013 Zillow Trick-or-Treat Index,” which ranks the top 20 cities in this category across the U.S.

The website says San Diego has jumped up three spots from last year, when it came in 15th on the index. It’s the only city to see that sort of spike up the list.

Stealing the No. 1 spot on the national rankings is San Francisco, followed by Boston, Honolulu, San Jose, Calif., and Seattle rounding out the top five. For the full list, click here.

According to Zillow, the rankings were compiled based on this formula: the cities or communities that will provide the most candy to trick-or-treaters, with the least walking and safety risk.

Results were calculated using the Zillow Home Value Index, population density, Walk Score data and local crime figures.
