The Whaley House Gets into the Halloween Spirit

The house is said to be one of the most haunted in America

The Whaley House - the most haunted house in America, according to Life Magazine in 2005 - has a variety of events scheduled throughout October for Halloween.

Now in its third year, the historical home is screening black and white horror movies in its second floor theater – the first theater built in San Diego. Last week the house showed 1960’s 13 Ghosts, and this Wednesday at 7 p.m. they will show another William Castle movie, House on Haunted Hill starring Vincent Price.

The Whaley House will also hold two 90-minute ghost hunting tours next Friday and Saturday hosted by museum staff and the San Diego Ghost Hunters.

The Saturday before Halloween the house will be open until 9:30 p.m. There will be a special Halloween Nighttime Admission on Halloween from 7 p.m. until midnight where guests can see the home as it would have looked when the Whaley family was in mourning - coffin and all.

Period music, historic lighting and stories of ghostly encounters at the house will help to set the mood.
