All Hallows Eve is around the corner and the holiday just wouldn’t be the same without the perfect pumpkin. Luckily, there are plenty of pumpkin patches in San Diego’s North County, so finding a splendid gourd shouldn’t be a problem.
Whether it’s for carving or cooking – the pumpkin hunt is half the fun. Check out these popular pumpkin patches, thanks to findings on Yelp.
Pumpkin Station (Del Mar):
With an antique carousel, two giant slides and a petting zoo, this seasonal station toots more than a train horn. You’ll need tickets for the rides, but the photo opportunities, parking and entrance to this gourd zone is free. Grab your kiddies and pose among the pumpkins before you hit the game zone and play center.
Peltzer Farms (Temecula):
Pig races, a free corn maze and a collection of tractors your family will love! Also, the Mound-O-Hay should not be missed. Cost of activities at this pumpkin patch range from free to a few dollars. Bring a picnic, or even book a private party here if you wish. There is no general admission fee to the pumpkin patch and it is open late: You can get spooky till 8 p.m.
Farm Stand West (Escondido):
Fall is the air here, no doubt. Get your corn stalks for decorating and the perfect harvest produce for cooking here. This weekend, Farm Stand West will host their Fall Harvest Festival featuring a BBQ lunch, local artists, bakers, craftsmen, jewelers and more. The excitement happens Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
Lavender Hill Pumpkins (Fallbrook):
About 10,000 pumpkins were grown this year, including a 300-pound North Atlantic Giant.
Families flock to this farm to snag a special selection for carving. The atmosphere here is organic and delightful – true to farmland simplicity. No petting zoos or carnival rides here, but this patch is certainly high on romance and those golden gourds.
Oma's Pumpkin Patch (Lakeside):
For $8 your little ones can get a tractor ride through the cow meadows and pumpkin patch, a small bottle of water and they can pick their own small pumpkin at the end of the trip. Not to mention all of the other activities and two playgrounds on the premises. Don’t forget to climb the “cottonseed mountain,” which is definitely fun for all.
