San Diego Featured as One of “World's Smart Cities” in National Geographic Documentary

San Diego will be the focal point of an hour-long documentary on the National Geographic Channel looking at why our city is one of the “World’s Smart Cities.”

The National Geographic is launching the new documentary series looking at cities throughout the world that are on the cutting edge of technology, innovation, urban development and quality of life.

The only city in North America featured in “World’s Smart Cities,” San Diego’s segment will air in more than 20 countries starting this month.

“The 50-minute San Diego episode is expected to reach more than 150 million international households and approximately 85 million U.S. households, providing record exposure for the city as a leading business and travel destination,” the San Diego Tourism Authority stated in a news release.

A National Geographic crew filmed in San Diego last fall and focused on the works of UC San Diego’s San Diego Center for Algae Biotechnology, our city’s vibrant craft beer scene, conservation efforts of SeaWorld San Diego and the stunning architecture of the new San Diego Central Library, to name a few.

You can watch the documentary in the United States at 8 a.m. April 25 and 8 a.m. May 2 on the National Geographic Channel.
