YOU CAN FORGIVE ANY FIDO... who happened to think he could freely saunter into the San Diego Botanic Garden. After all, the plant-packed Encinitas spread is lush and leafy and even park-like, and any pup worth his trotting paws knows that a park is a perfect place to romp, sniff, roll over, leap, and play for days. But the San Diego Botanic Garden, for the most part, is a place for people to explore throughout the year, and while it plans a number of memorable events, from its annual fairy-themed day to the holiday lighting display, it isn't a place for pooches to pursue their poochly pastimes. But that all changes on one fabulously Fido-riffic day of the year, a day when both pups and their peeps are invited to come out and support the succulent-sweet destination, as well as the Rancho Coastal Humane Society. SATURDAY, FEB. 17: That's when the 5K Paw Walk returns, and, with it, the chance to enter the San Diego Botanic Garden with your Schnauzer or Boston Terrier. A big note? There's a different start spot, due to some construction, so meet at the San Dieguto Heritage Museum. It's a fairly early start, too, at 8 a.m., but if you live life with a Lassie, you're probably up on the sunnier side of the day, as dogs do tend to rise with the dawn, or not too long after. The wrap time? It's 11, meaning you two can head out to brunch somewhere nearby if you're in the mood, pup and person, post-walk. The price to join? It's $32 per adult, $21 for Youth Walkers (participants under the age of 18), and there shall be a number of dogly vendors out, if you want to peruse foods and leashes and such. Ah yes, best make sure your buddy is on a leash for the happening. Good? Good. No growls here, only licks, tail wags, and smiles (of the human and hound kind).
