Veering off the traditional Thanksgiving path when it comes to turkey can be difficult for some residents and many often end up with firefighters barging into their front door.
The Southwestern College Fire Science Club hosted a safety event to prepare for Thanksgiving to ensure those who wanted to know how to deep-fry a turkey would understand how to do so and avoid serious injuries.
Their warnings included not to attempt deep-frying a turkey indoors, not even in the garage. When cooking outside, the group warned to move at least 10 feet away from the building in an area with no dry grass or brush nearby.
The most important thing to remember, the club said, is to be safe.
