It was a special day Wednesday for staff at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park as a greater one-horned rhino calf entered an exhibit for the first time.
Anusha, born one month ago, stayed close to her mother, Alta, as they explored the rocks and a large mud puddle.
The mud wallow allows the rhinos to cool off and acts as a bug repellant and sunscreen.
Anusha's name means "beautiful morning" in Hindi.
Depite her "armor", Anusha was a little shy and her mother a little protective.
"Everything is new to the calf right now, so it will be interesting to watch her acclimate and eventually meet some of the other rhinos, and other animals that share their habitat," Jillian King, the Safari Park's senior keeper said in a written news release.
Park visitors are able to see Alta and Anusha at the Asian Savanna exhibit and during a Caravan or Cart Safari tour.
