Escondido Students Build Longest PB&J Sandwich

April 2 is National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day. So on Wednesday, students from Escondido Charter High School set out to make the longest PB&J sandwich in history.

Using ingredients from the Jelly Bear Jelly Company, Wedeking’s Bakery and Hollandia Dairy, 10 high school students spread the peanut butter and jelly as fast as they could.

In the end, the sandwich measured 51-feet 6-inches long. (Escondido Mayor Sam Abed did the official measurement.) It took 2 minutes 35 seconds to complete and used nine different jellies, according to Jelly Bear owner Matthew Weathersby.

Volunteers sliced up the super sandwich, which was then enjoyed by Heritage K-8 Charter School students.
