Westfield UTC in San Diego will soon be home to a new bookstore as Amazon prepares to open its second brick-and-mortar location in the country there this summer.
Amazon plans to open the bookstore at the shopping center located at 4545 La Jolla Village Dr. The mall is less than two miles away from the University of California, San Diego, in La Jolla.
"We are excited to be bringing Amazon Books to the Westfield UTC Mall in San Diego and we are currently hiring store managers and associates," Amazon spokesperson Sarah Gelman told NBC 7 on Tuesday.
Gelman said further details about the store will be released at a later date.
Amazon opened its first brick-and-mortar bookstore last fall in Seattle, where the company is headquartered. Eventually, Amazon plans to open 400 bookstores nationwide.
The company has launched many offerings in the San Diego market, including one-hour delivery of grocery items in San Diego through places like Sprouts and Bristol Farms through the Amazon Prime Now service. The Amazon Prime Now service recently expanded in San Diego to include one-hour delivery of beer, wine and spirits, as well as prompt delivery of food from nearly 100 San Diego restaurants.
