Golden Globes Table Chatter Ends in β€œGlee” Deal for Anne Hathaway

"Glee" fans -- and some of the show's cast members -- were pleasantly surprised to find out at the Golden Globes Sunday night that  A-list actress Anne Hathaway will be singing her way to McKinley High.

Ryan Murphy, the creator of the hit musical series, confirmed after the annual awards ceremony in Beverly Hills that the "Love and Other Drugs" star scored a cameo on the show with a character she pitched herself.

"She said it in the press that she wants to play Chirs Colfer's lesbian aunt," Murphy told Access Hollywood at a FOX after-party. "She walked by our table and we have a mutual friend and I said, 'Do you really want to do it?' And she said, 'I do.' And I said, 'OK, we're gonna do it."

The movie star and this year's Oscars co-host began lobbying for a position on the hit musical series in November

"In my head, I've written a part for myself on 'Glee.'... and I know what song I'd sing," Hathaway told Jimmy Fallon on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" a couple of months ago. "I would want to play Kurt's long-lost aunt his mother's sister who is also gay, who comes back to help him deal with his sexuality, and I would sing, 'You Are Not Alone' from Stephen Sondheims's epic show 'Into the Woods.'"

Murphy's announcement was news to some "Glee" actors as well. Chris Colfer--who earned a Golden Globe for his performance as talented openly gay student Kurt -- found out about Hathaway's guest spot from Murphy back stage while they were doing press.

"I'm so excited, I lover her and worship her."

Murphy told Access Hollywood he thinks they'll start filming the episode in about a month and a half.

"Glee" took home three Golden Globes Sunday night. In addition to Colfer's win, the show scored a trophy for Best Comedy and another for Jane Lynch's role as lovable villain Sue Sylvester.
