D'oh! Create Your Own Simpson

Your "The Simpsons" addition could end up on the small screen

Fans of "The Simpsons" could soon be getting even closer to Springfield.

One die-hard fan of Homer, Bart, Marge and the gang will get the chance to design their own character to hang with the Simpsons crew -- and see that character on an episode of the Fox cartoon hit early next year.

Viewers can create an addition to "The Simpsons" and submit their entry online at www.thesimpsons.com.

Entries should be "pithy and funny," said executive producer Al Jean, one of the judges in the competition. Creator Matt Groening will also judge the contest, which runs until 11:59 p.m. EDT Oct. 24.

The winner will also get to jet to Los Angeles to help animators bring their character to life in the "Simpsons" Springfield universe, earning the right to meet with series producers and guide the direction of their episode.

Characters submitted should be given a specific name or nickname, age, appearance, job and catch phrase akin to Homer's infamous "D'oh!"

The featured Simpsons creation will appear in the early 2010 episode, which will follow Homer as he arrives late to a wedding after stopping to buy a lottery ticket, much to blue-haired wife Marge's chagrin. The episode will also star Chris Martin's Coldplay in the guest spot.

"The Simpsons" has aired on Fox since 1990 and is the longest-running prime-time series on television.
