“30 Rock's” Elizabeth Banks Welcomes Son Via Surrogate

In a case of art imitating life, Elizabeth Banks, like her "30 Rock" character Avery Jessup, is welcoming a brand new baby.

The 37 year-old actress and her husband Max Handelman have announced the birth of their son, Felix, via gestational surrogate.

The proud new mom announced the news via her web site.

"I have been very fortunate in life both professionally and personally," she wrote. "The one true hurdle I've faced in life is that I have a broken belly. After years of trying to get pregnant, exploring the range of fertility treatments, all unsuccessful, our journey led us to gestational surrogacy."

She goes on to call meeting the right surrogate and the healthy birth of her son "two miracles."

Banks has a recurring role as Jack Donaghy's (Alec Baldwin) wife on the NBC comedy, and has several film projects in various stages of development.
