Record Featuring Sen. Robert Byrd on Fiddle to be Re-Issued

Ex-Klansman turned Senator recorded bluegrass album in 1978

A bluegrass album featuring legendary lawmaker Robert Byrd, who died earlier this week at 92, will be reissued by a Virginia record label.

Byrd, a one-time Klansman from West Virginia who became the longest-serving member of the Senate, recorded the record in 1978 with a band called the Country Gentlemen. Byrd played the fiddle on several old bluegrass standards.

County Records owner Dave Freeman said the album will be out on CD July 27.
