Lady Gaga Claims Billboard's 1,000th Number One Single

Gaga makes history.

The same week she was reborn from an egg at the Grammy awards, Lady Gaga achieved a singular distinction in pop music history.

The provocative singer's new single, "Born This Way," became the 1,000th song to reach the number one spot on Billboard's "Hot 100" List, reports New York.

"It is a tremendous honor," Gaga said in an interview with Billboard. "To be the 1000th no. 1 on Billboard...I would be silly not to say this is the greatest honor of my career."

"I am so humbled and so honored and overwhelmed by the reception to 'Born This Way,'" she added. "[It] has been so life changing for me as an artist, and between Billboard and the international number ones and the radio numbers...I couldn't be more blessed to have the fans that I have."

The single is the first release from the forthcoming album of the same name, which is set to hit stores May 23.

"Born This Way" becomes Gaga's third chart-topping single. Both "Just Dance" (the 968th No. 1) and "Poker Face" (972) claimed the top slot in 2009.

The song is also the 19th title track to reach number one in the chart's 52-year history.
