In an emotional acceptance speech, actor Ryan Gosling dedicated his Golden Globes win for best actor in a musical or comedy to his partner Eva Mendes’ brother, who died in the past year after a battle with cancer.

Gosling, after making a crack about getting confused with fellow nominee Ryan Reynolds (nominated for "Deadpool"), thanked his "La La Land" costar Emma Stone and the film’s director Damien Chazelle.

“If she hadn’t taken all that on so I could have this experience [someone else would be up here],” he said. “Sweetheart, thank you,” he added, before dedicating the award to Mendes’ brother, who died last year after a battle with cancer.

"La La Land" swept the Golden Globes, winning 7 awards for 7 nominations.
