Not Rolling Out the Red Carpet: Stars Banned From Speaking at “The Interview” Premiere

Seth Rogan, James Franco and the rest of the movie's talent were told to keep quiet in the wake of the devastating cyberattack carried out on Sony Pictures Entertainment, which saw 100,000 gigabites of information stolen from the company.

The stars of controversial new film, "The Interview," were banned from speaking to the media at the Hollywood premiere Thursday night.

Seth Rogan, James Franco and the rest of the movie's talent were told to keep quiet in the wake of the devastating cyberattack carried out on Sony Pictures Entertainment, which saw 100,000 gigabites of information stolen from the company.

It has been speculated  North Korea was behind the Sony attack in retaliation for the comedy's plot, which follows a farcical CIA assassination attempt on the country's dictator Kim Jong Un, which is to be carried out by a tabloid TV star and his producer.

Actor Charles Chun, who plays a Korean general in the film, spoke briefly before being told to keep quiet.

"I'm very thrilled to be a part of it. I don't know anyone who doesn't think North Korea is behind it (the cyberattack)," Chun said.

Access Hollywood's Billy Bush said the film company was trying to play down the big night in an attempt to avoid further controversy.

"I think Sony was trying to not celebrate, not make it a spectacle," Bush said.

However, he did say there were some words of comfort from the film's star Seth Rogan to embattled co-chairman Amy Pascal, who is under fire after emails were leaked in which she and producer Scott Rudin mocked President Barack Obama. In the damaging missives they inferred he only liked movies with black actors and subject matter.

"Seth minced no words. He said I want to thank Amy Pascal for having the cojones to make this film," Bush said.

Pascal apologized for the emails on Thursday, breaking weeks of silence over the damaging leaks.

“The content of my e-mails to Scott were insensitive and inappropriate but are not an accurate reflection of who I am,” Pascal said.
