John McCain Returning to “Parks and Recreation”

The senator from Arizona will once again meet up with Leslie Knope after appearing in the show's fifth season.

John McCain is heading back to "Parks and Recreation," E! News has confirmed. The senator, who appeared in the fifth season premiere episode of the NBC comedy, will make a cameo in the seventh and final season.

In his first appearance, McCain appeared with Amy Poehler's Leslie Knope while she had a moment in a coat closet. Look for McCain to have scenes with Poehler's character, who is now working for the National Parks Service, and Aubrey Plaza's April Ludgate. Footage of McCain in "Parks" appeared in a new promo for the show's final season.

McCain is just one of many political figures to appear on Parks and Rec. In the same episode as McCain's first appearance, Senator Barbara Boxer and former Senator Olympia Snowe appeared as themselves. Vice President Joe Biden also appeared as himself in a scene with Poehler and Adam Scott's Ben Wyatt, and Michelle Obama appeared in the season six finale as herself.

Other familiar faces returning for Parks and Recreation's final season include Mo Collins, Megan Mullally, Ben Schwartz, Rashida Jones, Rob Lowe, Jon Hamm and Jon Glaser.

In the season six finale, Parks and Rec jumped ahead three years into the future to 2017, shaking up the characters' lives. In the season premiere Leslie attempts to make a new national park, but faces competition from technology company Gryzzl. Ben gets a special recognition and April and Andy try to regain their spontaneity. Tammy 2 (Mullally) shows up in the second episode of the season.

Parks and Recreation returns Tuesday, Jan. 13 at 8 p.m. on NBC with back-to-back episodes.
