The A-lister screened his new movie, "London Has Fallen," in front of military familes at the Southern California base

Fans had their phones ready for selfies on Friday afternoon as A-list actor Gerard Butler made a cameo at Camp Pendleton, just north of San Diego.

Butler greeted  a large crowd of U.S. Marines, sailors and military families who came out for his visit at the Camp Pendleton Base Theater. Butler was there to promote his new movie, “London Has Fallen" with a special screening for members of the military.

The actor, known for films “P.S. I Love You,” “Olympus Has Fallen” and “Law Abiding Citizen,” said he was thrilled to be there, and said the troops have always been huge supporters of his work.

He said this visit was about honoring real-life heroes.

"London Has Fallen" will be released in theaters on March 4. It’s about a terrorist attack in London that kills the British prime minister and a Secret Service agent’s quest to bring the U.S. president to safety.

During his visit at the base, Butler spent time posing for photos with fans and chatting with service members.
