Singer Chris Brown was charged Tuesday with two misdemeanors in connection with a minor vehicle collision last month in the San Fernando Valley.

The 24-year-old Brown, still on probation for an assault on then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009, was charged with misdemeanor hit-and-run and driving without a license, according to the criminal complaint filed by the Los Angeles City Attorney's office. The charges were filed Tuesday morning, according to the Los Angeles City Attorney's office.
Arraignment is scheduled for July 15, and the recording artist is not required to appear for the proceeding. Both charges carry a maximum penalty of six months in jail.
Brown posted a series of tweets Tuesday in response to the charges, claiming the other driver involved in the May 21 collision is "thinking of a pay day."
"She contacted the cops thinking of a payday from Chris Brown when I followed the proper procedures," Brown tweeted. "I have a valid drivers license and I gave the woman the right info. She saw cameras and wanted to make a scene."
An image of what was described as the other car involved in the collision also was posted on Brown's Twitter account.
The allegations are the latest controversy for Brown, who was arrested shortly after the 2009 Grammy ceremony for his alleged attack on Rihanna. He was handed five years probation in connection with the assault case.
