Cate Blanchett and Justin Theroux Visit Philip Seymour Hoffman's Partner, Mimi O'Donnell, at Home in New York

Those who loved Philip Seymour Hoffman in life haven't wasted any time paying their respects following his sudden passing this weekend.

Cate Blanchett, who was in "The Talented Mr. Ripley" with Hoffman in 1999, was spotted visiting the Oscar winner's longtime partner, Mimi O'Donnell, at her apartment building in New York City's West Village earlier Monday. She showed up weighted down with a brand-new telescope and a shopping bag from a toy store.

Hoffman was father to three young children--Cooper, 10; Tallulah, 7; and Willa, 5--with O'Donnell, a costume designer and a cofounder of the LAByrinth Theater Company, where Hoffman was considered a principal player.

Blanchett flew out to New York after having attended the Santa Barbara Film Festival (where she fielded unpleasant questions about "Blue Jasmine" director Woody Allen) on Saturday night.

Also making the pilgrimage to O'Donnell's home was Justin Theroux, who acted with Hoffman in the offbeat 2005 comedy "Strangers With Candy."

An autopsy was expected to be conducted Monday by the New York City Medical Examiner's Office, but the official cause of Hoffman's death won't be released until the results of toxicology tests are in.

He was found unconscious in his bathroom, a needle stuck in his left arm, by his assistant, Isabella Wing-Davey, and playwright friend David Katz on Sunday morning. O'Donnell had called Katz to check on Hoffman after he didn't show up at her place to pick up their kids as expected for a visit.

Authorities are investigating Hoffman's death as a probable overdose. A law-enforcement source has confirmed to E! News that numerous bags of heroin were found in the 46-year-old actor's apartment, as well as used syringes and a number of prescription medications.

But while those who saw Hoffman at the Sundance Film Festival, where he had two movies screening, just a couple weeks ago have said that he seemed healthy and happy, and a source told E! News that he had a sober dinner with two male friends on Saturday night, O'Donnell reportedly suspected that something was wrong.

According to the Wall Street Journal, which referred to O'Donnell as Hoffman's "estranged partner," she told investigators that Hoffman appeared to be under the influence of drugs when she last saw him at around 2 p.m., local time, on Saturday. He also sounded high when she spoke to him on the phone at around 8 p.m. that night, O'Donnell also said, per the report.

NYPD detectives told the WSJ that they're trying to track down who sold Hoffman the heroin in his possession, some of which was in glassine bags stamped with the brand names "Ace of Spades" and "Ace of Hearts."

"Trying to track down dealers and the origin of drugs is always going to be a part of [an]...investigation like this," said Inspector Timothy Budge, commanding officer of the NYPD's Manhattan South Narcotics unit.
