Bill Murray Skipped the Emmys to Attend Son Luke Murray's Wedding

It must have been very exciting for Bill Murray when he won the Emmy in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie category for "Olive Kitteridge," but he wasn't there to claim it.

Fans were shocked to see Murray skip out on the annual event, especially since it was his first Emmy in more than 30 years. But it turns out it was for a very good reason: His son was getting married.

Luke Murray, an assistant basketball coach at Xavier University in Ohio, married Kara Cassidy over the weekend in Philadelphia. Cassidy is a former assistant women's basketball coach at University of Pennsylvania.

Several locals spotted the 65-year-old "Ghostbusters" star in a dive bar Friday.

Murray's longtime friend Kelly Lynch confirmed the actor's presence at his son's nuptials by tweeting a picture of the star making a speech. "Another reason I [heart] #BillMurray - he wins an #Emmy but is at his son's wedding #priorities," she posted Sunday. [[328658691,C]]

Per Philly.com, Luke and Kara hosted a rehearsal dinner at the Acorn Club Saturday and married at The Bellevue Sunday. The "Groundhog Day" star reportedly rented out the venue's 27th floor for wedding guests and other preparations. In addition to Murray, Luke's uncle, Joel Murray, and a couple of "Saturday Night Live" writers such as Jim Downey also showed up to celebrate.
