‘Office’ Employee May Get A Spin-Off

Producers of Amy Poehler’s new untitled mock-umentary comedy for NBC confirmed rumors the show won’t be a spin-off of “The Office” as originally intended, but Dunder-Mifflin lovers still may get plenty more on-screen pulp in the future.

When asked at NBC’s TCA on Thursday why Amy’s show was originally described as an “Office” spin-off, Co-creator and Executive Producer Greg Daniels, let it slip that one of Michael Scott’s masses may get their own show.

“There is another idea for an actual true spin-off that involves ‘Office’ characters, but once Amy became available to this project, we wanted to go in a direction that would maximize what she would do,” Greg said. “That other project is out there, but it’s not this one.”

Greg, who is co-producing Amy’s new show with Michael Schur, a writer for “The Office,” said he doesn’t have enough time to currently work on the spin-off. However, he revealed he has discussed the idea with Stephen Merchant, who co-wrote the original British version of “The Office” with Ricky Gervais.

“It’s not possible physically for me to be involved in that right this second, but I am talking to people over at ‘The Office’ about another idea. Stephen Merchant came back and directed an episode of ‘The Office’ this season and he and I were talking about the idea also,” Greg explained. “It’s possible that some combination of other ‘Office’ people could produce that, without me giving my blood for it.”
