Ne-Yo to Pay $156K for Missed New Year's Eve Show

R&B star Ne-Yo has reportedly been ordered to pay up for skipping a New Years Eve 2008 gig in Washington state.

A Maryland judge ruled the “Miss Independent” singer and his booking agent pay promoter Kenyohn Clark more than $156,000 in damages for having missed the Bellevue show, The Associated Press reported.

Ne-Yo, real name Shaffer Smith, testified at trial that in his “heart of hearts” a $95,000 deposit should have been returned to Clark, according to the AP.

The promoter said he learned the day of the event via text message that Ne-Yo would not be there in time to perform as a result of his travels in Africa, the Baltimore Sun reported.
