Mischa Barton: TV Isn't For Me

"I think I need to back away from the whole TV approach," the starlet said

Mischa Barton said she wants to step aside from the small screen.

The young starlet who gained fame on the popular television series "The O.C." said she wouldn't mind kicking her network television career to the curb in favor of more serious acting roles, according to People.com.

"I think I need to back away from the whole TV approach," she told People. "That whole world of network television probably isn't, for me, a good idea now."

"I need to start reading for more serious roles."

Barton's latest TV series the CW's "A Beautiful Life" was cancelled shortly after it began. The actress had also endured a much-publicized breakdown and subsequent hospital stint in Los Angeles before she packed her bags and moved to her hometown of New York.

The 23-year old said earlier this month she was eyeing some big screen roles, but nothing is certain yet.

"It's too early to tell yet," Barton told People. "I'm passing on all the [early] offers, because that's not the stuff you want to do. I want to go fight for interesting thing sand look for somethign that's going to be interesting for me ... as a role."
