LeAnn Rimes Explains Why She Cheated on Hubby

Country star LeAnn Rimes said she realizes cheating on her hubby of six years was not the right way to exit her “unfulfilling” marriage.

“I understand why people are disappointed in me, especially since I grew up as America's sweetheart,” Rimes told Shape, appearing in a bikini on the cover of the mag’s October issue.

The 28-year-old “How Do I Live” singer now lives with Eddie Cibrian, 36, and his two sons following an affair with the actor. The pair met on the set of the TV movie “Northern Lights.”

Rimes first spoke out on the dissolution of her marriage to Dean Sheremet in June, telling People mag that she “hates” the pain she caused him by ending up with Cibrian.

In her interview with Shape, Rimes revealed what motivated her to stray.

"My relationship with Dean was great, but ultimately it wasn't a fulfilling marriage for either of us," Rimes said, according to excerpts obtained by Usmagazine.com. "We got married so young: I was 19 and he was 21, so as we got older, we grew apart."

Rimes added: “I think any relationship is hard to get out of, and I don't think the way I did it was right.”

Following revelations of the affair, Rimes became “so depressed” she “didn’t want to get out of bed,” the musician told Shape.

It helped to hit the gym, she said.

"It gave me a bit of sanity. Even now, on days when I'm really frustrated, I'll walk into the gym and say to my trainer, 'We're boxing today. For an hour. I need to hit things,'" Rimes said.

She added that the experience has provided many lessons “to learn” from.

“Cultivating strength from rough situations is the most important thing,” she said. “After going through this, I know I can face anything.”
