Michael Douglas Near End of Chemo, Doing Well

Will finish cancer treatment this week, rep says

Oscar winner Michael Douglas is into the homestretch of his cancer treatment, and hopes to be resting cancer free by this time next week.

"This is the last week of radiation and chemo treatment," his rep Allen Burry told Entertainment Tonight. "It will be followed up by at least six weeks of recuperation before he can begin to get back on his feet. The doctors are very pleased with how it has gone and no further treatments have been scheduled."

Douglas, who turned 66 last month, was diagnosed with throat cancer in August. He is appearing in "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps," the long-awaited sequel to "Wall Street," a 1987 film that landed him a best actor Academy Award.

In August, he appeared on David Letterman's "Late Show" and said the treatment "knocks you out really hard." But his latest role, reprising the Gordon Gekko role he made famous nearly 25 years ago, has him motivated, said Burry.
