Glam Slam: Makeup Mondays – Fringe Benefits

Nobody knows how to lash out better than Hollywood

Stars like Beyonce, Gwen Stefani, Madonna and Jennifer Lopez — who famously wore false eyelashes made out of mink on the red carpet, would look downright naked without their trademark fringe. We wanted to know how to get the look ourselves, so we went straight to some of Hollywood’s beauty secret weapons.

“We were inspired by images taken from the 1960’s of these gorgeous, glamorous women…but we wanted to put a modern day twist on it.”

That’s Madonna’s longtime makeup artist, Shu Uemura’s Gina Brooke, who worked with the superstar to create the 60’s inspired looks for her latest CD and tour. After curling lashes with Shu Uemura’s famous curler, apply black mascara. For the real transformation…add false lashes for drama.

“This is a really great trick. Take the lash and you wrap it around a (small makeup) brush and you let it set so it’s like curling the lash,” Brooke said.

Add adhesive, then apply the lashes.

“You want to apply the lash closest to the lash line as possible starting at the inner corners working your way out… this lash will completely enhance the shape of the eye. It gives a more dramatic, beautiful, larger eye. www.ShuUemura-USA.com.

Luscious lash-loving gals Christina Aguilera, Vanessa Hudgens and Jessica Biel are fans of ‘the Lash’ kit by Vanitymark. Created by Celebrity Makeup Artist Brett Freedman, the $45 compact kit contains everything you need for amazing lashes. Mascara, primer, curler, brush and comb all-in-one neat little package.

“Up and in, rather than down and out,” is how Brett has advised Vanessa to apply mascara. Sweep the lash toward the forehead rather than at an angle towards the temples to achieve the “wide-eyed” look that is currently the trend. Available at VanityMark.com.

For the truly lash-obsessed, there’s eyelash enhancement serum, neuLash, which seems to be recession-proof. In less than a month, it’s become one of Saks Fifth Avenue’s biggest sellers, even with its $150 price tag. The conditioner contains essential proteins, vitamins and promises to protect from breakage, provide moisture and increase elasticity. More at SaksFifthAvenue.com.
