George Lopez Gets Serious About Bullying

George Lopez is known for being a funnyman, but he got very serious about the issue of bullying on Tuesday's Access Hollywood Live.

"We all were bullied. Here's what we have to understand: We cannot live in the past. We were all bullied as kids. I had the biggest hair and the darkest skin," George told Access Hollywood Live's Billy Bush and Kit Hoover. "What we have to do now is save the kids who are being bullied on computers and bullied in school and bullied by friends and bullied on Facebook."

The "Lopez Tonight" host, who has a young daughter – Mayan β€” said he protects her by keeping her away from a host of websites.

"I am a parent. I do not allow my daughter to have a Facebook page or a MySpace page or Twitter," George continued. "If you're looking for positive, don't look to Twitter, and for us who are older, let's not go into the past and talk about our bullying, but help kids now."

When Billy asked what people can do help stop bullying, George said parents need to get involved with their kids.

"We focus our attention on computers and parents being parents in their own home, not allowing their child to dress provocatively, to not allow Facebook and MySpace and to have text messages," he said. "You have to eliminate the electronics because it's almost like a weapon that kids aren't supposed to have."

In related George news, the funnyman celebrated his Season 2 premiere last night on TBS, and he told Billy and Kit he had no problem following Conan O'Brien for the first time.

"I'm happy that Conan is on the air and we're both partners and looking to the future," George said.

George, whose show was moved to midnight to accommodate "Conan," said he and the redheaded star are reaching a whole new audience.

"He and I to go into the future of late night TV – if you look at David Letterman and if you look at Jay Leno β€” they're in their 60s and the audience reflects that," George said. "We're not. We're still in our 40s and it's a much younger, much more diverse show and it's important. I'm not sure if anybody's aware, but diversity is on the rise."

"Lopez Tonight" airs at midnight on Mondays-Thursdays on TBS.
