Gans' Career ‘Sparked' in La Jolla: Report

Friends and family members are mourning the loss of  performer Danny Gans. The Las Vegas headliner died early Friday at home, according to Wynn Hotel spokesperson Jennifer Dunne,

Dunne called the death sudden. She said she doesn't know details about how or why Gans died.

A 911 call was made at 3:44 a.m. by a family member for a 52-year-old man who was "having trouble breathing," but by the time medics arrived at the Las Vegas home, Gans had died, TMZ reported.

"Elaine and I and all of us in the company are devastated at the loss of our brilliant, talented and loving friend.... one of the most unique human beings and entertainers in the world has been taken from us in an unexpected moment," Steve Wynn said in a statement to TMZ.

"The loss of Danny, to his wife Julie, his children Amy, Andrew and Emily, is at this moment impossible to comprehend. We will all try to go on with our lives without our dear friend. At this moment it seems almost impossible," Wynn said.

Gans was a singer, comedian, actor and impressionist known as "The Man of Many Voices." He performed for many years at The Mirage before moving to the Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas in February.

On his website, a biography explains how Gans literally fell into performing. As a teenager, Gans had a contract to play baseball with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Then, he tore his Achilles heel. One night, in San Diego, Gans and a teammate went to Mitzi Shore's Comedy Club. The story claims Gans literally hobbled in on a walking cast. After that night, Gans put together few minutes of material and started to work open mic nights at comedy clubs.
