The project marks the latest collaboration between Depp and Burton, who first teamed up for 1990’s “Edward Scissorhands.” Since then, the duo has worked together on “Ed Wood,” “Sleepy Hollow,” “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and most recently for 2007’s “Sweeney Todd,” which earned Depp an Oscar nomination.

In his journey down the rabbit hole, Depp will be joined by young Australian actress Mia Wasikowska, who had previously been cast as Alice.

Wasikowska is most recognized as “Sophie” from the hit HBO series “In Treatment.” She will also star alongside Hilary Swank and Richard Gere in the upcoming Amelia Earhart big screen biopic “Amelia.”

Also joining the “Alice” cast is British funnyman Matt Lucas, who stars in HBO’s new sketch comedy series “Little Britain USA.”

In an interview with AccessHollywood.com, Lucas, who will do double duty playing the portly pair of Tweedledum and Tweedledee in the film, said he couldn’t wait to hit the “Wonderland” set.
