LUCKY MAGIC TIME: There's certainly a theme of what it means to be a good witch or a bad witch in the "Wicked" world, but no one can quibble that a $25 orchestra seat falls in the "really great lucky magic awesome hooray" category. But some fortunate theatre goers will be shouting just those things -- well, we hope they will, at least -- when the daily lottery for "Wicked" tickets begins at the Segerstrom Center for the Performing Arts in Costa Mesa. The lottery kicks off on opening night, which is Wednesday, Feb. 20; shows will run through March 17.
NAB THAT SPECIAL SEAT: If you've never tried for theater seats via a lottery before, here's the key piece of information to tuck in your pocket: You need to arrive at the box office early. Like, two-and-a-half hours early (we all know those people that think "arrive early" means basically on time, or ten minutes ahead of schedule). But, look, two-and-a-half-hours? You would just sit around at home looking at your phone, right? Do it at the Segerstrom after putting your name in the lottery drum. A "limited number" will be drawn each night, which leads us to the second must-know for the lottery first-timer: You'll want to have the cash ready. As in, actual cash.
ELPHABA AND GLINDA: The hugely popular musical turns ten this year, but of course it feels like it has been around longer. That could be because we sometimes think of "The Wizard of Oz," which definitely has been around for a lot longer, or it could be due to the fact that it is a show that's garnered a super-fandom. As in, people seeing it dozens of times. In fact, we wouldn't doubt if some of the biggest fans of "Wicked" show for some lottery action. Seeing a show for the 13th or 14th time rocks, but seeing it for a mere twenty five bucks is pure magic.
