Redwood Lovers, Take a Walk (or Run) in the Woods

The Prairie Creek event will raise money for the Redwoods Parks Conservancy.

TAKING A WALK IN THE WOODS? So pleasant. Utterly relaxing. A primo way to connect with nature. And truly a route to shaking off the stress of our day-to-day hustle. What if, though, you could take a saunter among some glorious trees, while also helping those trees at the very same time? Nope, you wouldn't have to walk with a watering can in hand as you go, at least not at the 6th annual Prairie Creek Run/Walk in the Redwoods 5K. For the path to helping the redwoods at this event is all about raising money for the Redwoods Park Conservancy, which aids the tall trees in numerous education-based ways. So in short? Whether you're moving at a clip, jogging at an easy pace, or doing the whole stroll-and-soak-in-the-sights thing, you'll be giving back to one of California's, and the Earth's, greatest natural treasures.

SATURDAY, OCT. 5... is the date, and registration online is available now. "All proceeds from the run will benefit parks and public lands on California's north coast," is the good word, so consider this one way to connect with these colossal gems. Eager to see a map? There's one right here, which shows you all of the fascinating trails you'll cover (indeed, you'll be calling upon both Humboldt County and Del Norte County, too). If you've made a point to help the redwoods through numerous campaigns and efforts, but have been meaning to take part in an event, consider this one to be full of fun, exercise, fresh air, and a bit of autumn magic. Intrigued? Start here, and sign up now for this big-tree'd bash of a 5K.
