Mono County's Car Camping Destinations

Ready to soak up those Sierra sunbeams and stars, campers?

WE'RE ON THE CUSP OF SUMMER, and thus the cusp of a season that sees a caboodle of adventurers pitching tents near lakes, streams, and glorious mountainsides. Sometimes those tents are pitched after a trail hike, or time casting a fishing line, but other times a traveler will find a set-up spot that isn't too far from their parking spot. If car camping sounds a little more in line of what you have in mind, in terms of sleeping under the vast bowl of stars, then best peruse some of Mono County Tourism's picks for car camping locations around the beautiful and big region. You could throw on the brake at...

JUNE LAKE LOOP: "The Switzerland of California" is a flat-out fabulous play place, all year long, but, come summertime? The breezes grow a tad warmer, the brews at June Lake Brewing seem a tad foamier, and finding a bed-down spot not far from the lake-lovely shoreline feels like a good goal to have. "June Lake, Silver Lake, Gull Lake, and Grant Lake are well-stocked with rainbow trout," while "(a)spen and pine shade the campsites" (and, yep, the town of June Lake is fairly close for any needed supplies).

OTHER RECOMMENDED CAMPING FAVORITES? Convict Lake, Chris Flat Campground in Walker River Canyon, and the trio of campgrounds at Upper and Lower Twin Lakes are other Mono County Tourism picks. As for family campers? Look along Rock Creek Road, near Tom's Place, for your campground, or Camp High Sierra and Mammoth Mountain RV Park. For more camp-oriented suggestions, pitch a tent at the Mono County Tourism site now.
