Merced River Rafting is a Yosemite Summer Must

Rent your raft at Curry Village for this classic summer experience.

RAFTING IN A NATIONAL PARK? Whitewater rapids might spring first to mind, those amazingly vigorous H2O-riffic destinations that make a ride along a river one for the ages. And while parts of the splendid and splashy Sierra Nevada do offer that more powerful, ride-it-out feeling, there is also the delightful opportunity to "Meander Down the Merced River." Think of rafting with a side of gentle sightseeing, an experience that gives you the room and time to look around, and up, at the majesty of Yosemite Valley. If you're in a meandering mood, and you're a longtime maven of the Merced, best make your way to Curry Village, where rafts for just such a pleasurable outing may be rented.

THERE ARE SOME MUST-KNOWS, like the fact that a pair of "... capable paddlers are required per raft," so peruse all of the rules before paddling your own raft, er, car in the direction of the national park. Like? Life-jackets are mandatory, for sure (you'll get a loaner, so no need to show with your own). It's $28.50 per person, and there are a few elements included with that price, so study up. Then get up or over or down to the waterway that winds through one of the most scenic stretches on this planet, and perhaps any other, for some summer-style memory-making. Soon? You'll be ice skating, with Half Dome in view, and this warmer moment will be but a memory.

HOURS, DATES, AND DETAILS... may be found here. Are you searching for one more spectacular family outing before school begins? Or just a wonderful way to send off summer while enjoying a natural wonderland of trees, waterfalls, granite titans, and historic buildings? Here's where to start, but, again, read all, please, thank you, and happy rafting.
