Hotel del Coronado's Spirited October

Look for the ghost of Kate Morgan as you join one of the landmark's atmospheric events.

INNS AND THE OTHER SIDE? Shelves of riveting, plot-twisty novels, and the occasional ghost guide, have been penned about historic hotels and those lingerings guests who never checked out. Go to any bookstore and start perusing, and you're bound to come across the same hotel names, again and again. That's because some of the most fabled and active phantoms around call landmark resorts their forever homes, and those phantoms have found their way into numerous stories told and retold by guests. One of the best-known of all, in California and far beyond? That would be...

KATE MORGAN, the spirit who is surely one of the most legendary guests of Hotel del Coronado in San Diego. And while people visit the hotel, throughout the year, to see if they might catch a glimpse of Kate, many ghost seekers arrive in October, when the regal structure hosts a number of Halloween-inspired events. A few of those happenings are coming up, with a Haunted Happenings Tour taking place over a number of evenings. You'll learn all about Ms. Morgan's story during the tale-rich walk-around, as well as "other spirits who haunt the hotel."

THERE ARE OTHER ATMOSPHERIC TO-DOS... this October, including a Ghost Roast (think a bonfire and s'mores) that'll flicker from Oct. 21 through 31. And on the night of Oct. 26? It's one of the spooky centerpieces of The Del's fall season, Hallo-wine & Spirits, a made-for-adults costume party. The theme for 2019? Night of 1,000 Clowns, so best dig out those ruffled collars and squeaky noses. For more on this most macabre and merry of months at the phantom-famous spot, float this way, now, for dates, times, and beyond-the-veil vibes.
